Is a Madrid registration valid everywhere?+
No. It is a central filing and management system for selected member jurisdictions. Each designated office decides protection under its own law.
Do I need an Indian trademark first?+
An applicant using India as the Office of origin generally needs an Indian basic application or registration and must satisfy Madrid entitlement requirements.
Which countries should I select?+
Selection should reflect actual or planned markets, franchise territories, manufacturing locations, online exposure, distributor risk and budget.
Can countries be added later?+
Additional Madrid members may generally be added through subsequent designation, subject to current eligibility, coverage and fees.
What happens if a country refuses protection?+
A provisional refusal is handled under that jurisdiction's procedure, often with local-associate support. Refusal in one country does not automatically remove protection in all other designated countries.
